Abstract

To achieve the desired customary quality (structural and surficial), a pavement design specifies the following, in addition to the composition of the mixes used: the topographic positioning of each layer in the case of new works (see Chap. 2 ‘Topographic control’); its nominal thickness defined geometrically or by the average quantity to be spread per square metre and calculated on the basis of the value of the apparent density expected to be achieved; the surface characteristics to be achieved (evenness and, in certain cases, roughness). Note: In the strict sense, the design specifies only the longitudinal section and the standard cross-section, the positioning of each layer resulting from the pavement design chart.
