Abstract

In general, a hydraulic/coastal structure is planned as a practical measure to solve an identified problem. Starting with the identification of the problem (e.g. protection against wave attack), a number of stages can be distinguished in the design process of a structure: the definition of functions, the determination of boundary conditions, creating alternatives, geometrical design and the final choice of a functional solution.
