Tunnel boring machines
Abstract
In Norway tunnel driving with tunnel boring machines, TBMs, started some 25 years ago. Ten years later approximately 10% of the tunnels below 30 m 2 in cross-section were driven with TBMs. The peak was reached in 1983 with 30 km of TBM driven tunnels that year. In subsequent years the use of TBM was gradually reduced in favour of conventional methods.
