Abstract

In order to estimate the densification effect of a dynamic intensive compaction on a slight cohesive granular material a calculation procedure is proposed. An equation of motion which can be solved by a standard numerical procedure is established to calculate the penetration depth of the compaction weight into the ground. With a given compaction raster and the calculated depth of influence the decrease of the average void ratio can be calculated for the compacted zone. With an one-dimensional calculation and the hypoplastic constitutive law settlements of a given load can be estimated before and after the compaction.
