Abstract

Health hazards in construction can be recognized, evaluated, and controlled, provided we recognize the unique aspects of construction. The methods which have been used to study and control hazardous exposures in general industry provide a start, but they may not be suited to the complex, constantly changing conditions on a construction site. It is possible, however, to identify a set of exposures that result from work activities commonly performed by one or more of the trades involved in construction. The result of this approach is a comprehensive assessment of health hazards associated with construction work.
