Abstract

Tieback construction techniques have been rapidly improving and as they have become more sophisticated, they have also become more economical and dependable. In most countries of the world, foundation specialists have led the way in these developments. In many cases there is a distinctly national pattern to the developments. For example, most of the German companies combine grouting and extraction of a driven casing to make an excellent tieback. Sophisticated multiple-grouting procedures have been most carefully developed by French firms. The large hollow-stem-auger rigs are an American development. Today modern tieback contractors use a variety of techniques to install tiebacks. The method tieback contractors use is dependent on the soil type, access, anchor capacity, and other factors. In general, it is best to leave the method of tieback construction to a specialty tieback contractor.
