Early hominid occupation of Flores, East Indonesia, and its wider significance
Abstract
Dates for the arrival of hominids in Southeast Asia and their subsequent dispersal into Wallacea have implications for general models of our evolution, as well as the development of distinctly human traits - intelligence, forethought, co-operation, planning, technology and language. However, crucial parts of the archaeological sequence in the region are not clear. Recent archaeological discoveries on the island of Flores in east Indonesia rectify some of the problems.
