Abstract

The rain water harvesting is one of the ancient practices by which pure rain water is collected and preserved for futuristic use. Besides, rain water harvesting can be used for recharge of groundwater, which helps to raise the water table and improve the water quality in vulnerable areas for irrigation and domestic use. In the study area, “Chellanam Panchayath” the rain water harvesting is being focused on the later view by adopting a simple cost-effective model which was found suitable for the locality and best fitting to achieve the objectives. Studies on the hydrogeochemical variations induced in the shallow aquifer system through the implementation of rain water harvesting were carried out in the area.
