Abstract

In modern life, the importance of parks and gardens increases, when the population of cities increases. The municipality of Istanbul wants to enlarge the landscape areas in the city. However, the rainfall rate and its distribution in season are not enough to meet the water requirements for growing flowers, grasses and trees in the landscape areas. Therefore, irrigation is necessary for these areas. In this study, water requirements are determined using the Blaney-Criddle method for landscape irrigation in Istanbul City, as a semi-arid region. Present and future needs of irrigation requirements are taken into consideration. The values of irrigation requirements are evaluated for three different parts of the city, as the Asian part, the Black Sea coastal part, and the European part.
