Abstract

The increase in population, introduction of piped water to most of the residential areas of Kuwait, and the development of new residential areas caused rapid rise in consumption of freshwater in the country over the period 1970–1998. Rather high consumption rate, combined with scarcity of water in arid Kuwait, brings the issues related to the management of available water resources in the forefront. Forecasts of freshwater demand in the future have been made under different possible management scenarios and possible ways to control the rise in demand have been indicated.
