Abstract

A total of twelve reinforced (normal and high strength) concrete walls simply support on all sides have been tested under eccentric loading. The slenderness ratios (H/t w ) of these half-scale walls varied from 24 to 39. This paper highlights the experimental set-up and reports on the failure loads, deflections and typical crack patterns of the concrete walls tested. In addition, the strength results are compared with those predicted using the design formulas recommended in the Australian Standard AS3600-2001 and American code ACI318-1999.
