Abstract

In this paper, the principal stress based optimisation method is presented and employed as an effective means of optimising the topology and shape of cable supported bridges with stress, displacement and frequency constraints. Two optimisation schemes are investigated to examine the topology of a cable-stayed bridge when different design constraints are considered at different stages of optimisation process. The results due to the two schemes are compared fiOm which a more appropriate optimisation process is recommended.
