Abstract

In this summary chapter the editors present what they consider are the main results obtained in the Madrid Workshop (13 th –15 th December 2001), which included comments and ideas to improve water management in regions where there is an intensive use of groundwater. These results and suggestions only represent the personal viewpoint of the editors. During the International Symposium on Intensive Use of Groundwater (Valencia, Spain, 10 th –14 th December 2002) these issues will be the subject of further discussion. The relevant results will then be included in a later publication, in the IAH Selected Papers Series, which will be a follow up of the present one.
