Abstract

A lot of effort in applying and extending Concurrent Engineering in chemical manufacturing has been made which involves life-cycle considerations affecting the product, process and plant in every activity of the process engineering workflow. The core ideas of CE are integration and concurrency. Integration means simultaneously considering related issues of different life cycle stages and solving problem consistently while concurrency highlights the interactions between system components and different life cycle stages. This paper discusses ongoing integration efforts and challenges in the chemical manufacturing domain.
