FE simulation and experiments for the design of parts produced by metal injection moulding
Abstract
The production of 3D intricate metallic parts by Metal Injection Moulding is analysed through 3D finite element simulations and experiments all along the different stages of the process. Measurements of local densities after injection are used to characterize the effect of mould design and injection parameters on the powder volume fractions after injection so that the suitable choices for the injection parameters could be achieved. The 3D finite element software that has been developed based on the biphasic flows formulation has been used for mould design to avoid segregation and defects.
