A knowledge-based system for mold-base design

Based on an analysis of the coventional process of mold design, a new process of mold design is proposed. This process is implemented in a knowledge-based system for which some key technologies such as product modelling, frame-rule structure, case-based reasoning and neural network, are studied in detail. A framework of the system is developed, which renders three major advantages - with product modelling, engineers can mainly focus on product design, not product drawing; being integrated with AI technology, the system sets up design environment with field knowledge by which design time is reduced; and a new frame-rule structure for knowledge processing has been incorporated into the system.
