A unified product information model to support product and process design concurrency
Abstract
Understanding the essence and relationship between product design and manufacturing is critical for implementation of Concurrent Engineering (CE). A unified product information model (UPIM) is presented as a base for simultaneously embracing manufacturing process design in the product design stage. The implementation of concurrent interoperation of design and manufacturing information is illustrated through its application to a constraints-based automated process planning system.
