A knowledge management portal for engineering
Abstract
A knowledge management portal for concurrent engineering (CE) was developed at BAE SYSTEMS (ATC). The Portal-in-a-Box (PIB) tool from Autonomy Systems Ltd was used as the Portal platform. The main source of information content for the Portal, was the Company Intranet, plus an Internal Documents store that resided on the Portal PC. This paper describes how the PIB tool was used to configure such a Portal to support design engineers, by facilitating their access to large amounts of unstructured documentation, in multiple formats, from throughout BAE SYSTEMS.
