Autogenous shrinkage: present understanding and future research needs
Abstract
This paper is a state-of-the-art report on autogenous shrinkage of concrete. Various factors affecting autogenous shrinkage such as type of cement and admixture, mix proportion and volume concentration of aggregate are summarized. Relations between autogenous shrinkage and other volume changes such as thermal strain, drying shrinkage and swelling are discussed. Methods to reduce autogenous shrinkage are proposed form material aspects. The prediction method for autogenous shrinkage is also introduced.
