Abstract

All different areas of a company (human resources, accounting and finances, purchases, R&D, engineering, etc.) have the necessity of an Information System to exchange and transmit data between their working systems. In this Paper we will describe a tool to share and distribute project information efficiently (Knowledge management) and we will define an information standard protocol to interface different working systems for Total Project Management. The aim of this software is the control and management of construction projects in all the stages (planning and definition, design, procurement and construction). This tool will be focused on SMEs (Small and Medium size Enterprises) and will allow different companies working in the same project to share/transmit information. This tool will offer the possibility to atomise projects, that means to distribute tasks between different providers allowing a ‘real-time’ control of these tasks. This ‘real-time’ control combined with new telecommunications systems will confer ubiquity properties to the project information. Hence, data will be available from anywhere but only for those authorised people. It will allow to save hidden costs (specially those generated for misuse of information) and it will also increase control on scheduling, allowing to re-plan timing and compare it with original planning. This can be used to estimate new costs and budget deviations, and might be useful as a decision tool for project managers. In this Paper we will also test this tool and we will present a demonstration of its applications.
