4D modelling of precast concrete building constructions

This paper describes the result of an implementation and research project financed by the Swedish R&D program, IT Construction & Real Estate 2002 where the 4D-modelling concept have been adapted to the precast concrete building process. A demonstration implementation shows the possibility of 4D modelling in activity planning and follow-up administration of precast concrete construction. A PENG analysis of a fully developed system for the precast industry showed that the investment is paid back in less than a year. The main benefits are made in the factory production where time information applied to the product model leads to better planning, less rejections and more efficient use of existing resources. The result of the project is going to be implemented in commercial software used by the Swedish precast industry.
