Slab stability in hydraulic jump stilling basins as derived from physical modeling
Abstract
The paper deals with the characterization and the control of transient uplift generated by turbulent pressure fluctuations in spillway stilling basins at the base of a large gravity dam. An experimental facility, meant to measure forces and pressures acting on the slabs at the bottom in the hydraulic jump region is presented. Analyses of the sampled data with the aim to evaluate the temporal evolution of the highest uplifts forces acting on the lining are carried out. Moving from these analyses the design of the floor concrete slabs is performed.
