Abstract

Extensive ground improvement using vibro compaction of reclaimed sand fill was carried out below a future twin crude oil pipeline on Jurong island in Singapore. Compaction was executed to depths ranging between 20 m and 30 m. Onshore compaction was done underneath the future pipeline and offshore compaction on the seaside slope at the VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) jetty. In total, over 1.9 million cubic meters were compacted over a 3 month period.
