Abstract

This paper presents a method for the finite element analysis of concrete-steel composite beams using the direct stiffness method. Conventional analyses of these beams based on routine prescribed interpolation functions causes a curvature-locking phenomenon in the presence of partial shear interaction, and in many cases can lead to erroneous results. The technique developed herein does not cause undesirable curvature locking, and provides a framework for the inclusion of material nonlinearities for a comprehensive and robust technique of analysis.
