Abstract

This paper deals with reinforcement design procedures based on nonlinear finite element calculations. Iterative design algorithms according to the principles formulated in EC2 and DIN 1045–1 and their implementation in the nonlinear finite element program SEGNID are described. For the EC2 this is the method of iteration of sectional forces. Corresponding to the nonlinear design concept of the DIN 1045–1 the ultimate limit load iteration procedure is used. After calculating reinforcement distributions for a quadratic plate under a distributed force, comparisons are drawn between the different design methods.
