Abstract

The multiscaling analysis of the behaviour of granular material is considered in this paper. On the macro-level material is homogeneous, while on the meso-level material is considered to be heterogeneous. The problem of the size of the meso-level is of interest in the context of the paper. The influence of the size of the meso-level is analysed by means of the concept of a Representative Volume Element. A procedure, based on a statistical criterion, is proposed to find the appropriate size of the unit cell on the meso-level.
