On the weighted residual method for rectangular flat plates
Abstract
This paper uses the least-square and the Galerkin schemes of the weighted residual method to solve rectangular flat plates. This paper points out that if the assumed solution does not satisfy the boundary conditions, then the results may be erroneous. In addition, this paper shows that using more terms in the assumed solution might not give better results of the maximum deflection and this is opposite to the common belief. Suggestions for choosing the collocation points in the collocation scheme are also made in this paper.
