Abstract

A new method to set up the weighting functions used in element free Galerkin method (EFGM) is introduced in this paper. The traditional weighting functions in EFGM only have relationships with the distance between the nodes and the integration points without considering different node distributions along various axes and may bring more errors. Hence, two parameters are introduced to modify the weighting functions from round vesicular functions to elliptical vesicular functions. With this approach, the influence of node distributions on the accuracy is reduced and the precision is greatly improved for some commonly used weighting functions.
