Abstract

Rotation of principal stress axes is a common aspect of many loading situations in geo-technical engineering. Based on the elastoplastic numerical simulation of plane strain problems of soils involving rotation of principal stress axes, the influences of rotation of principal stress axes on the distribution of stress and deformation of soils are provided, and the situation that rotation of principal stress axes should be considered is presented.
