Concrete filled steel tubes: determination and visualization of cross-section behavior
Abstract
A generalized computational procedure is presented for the determination of the overall behavior of concrete-filled steel tubes using the fiber model approach. This procedure includes the automated meshing of the steel tubes and the concrete filling to determine the elastic cross-section properties, the elastic normal stress due to applied axial load and biaxial moment, the elastic shear stress due to biaxial shear force, and shear stress due to torsion. The procedure has also been extended to determine the internal stress resultants for any given strain profile across the cross-section, using any arbitrary non-linear stress–strain relationship. This can determine the moment curvature relationship up to the specified strain or curvature limits.
