Abstract

This paper summarizes the research work on concrete-filled steel tubes from China, with an emphasis on concrete-filled columns and beam-columns. The topics covered include: (1) Beam-columns subjected to static loading; (2) Beam-columns subjected to cyclic loading; (3) Long-term load effects; (4) Fire resistance; (5) Residual strength after exposure to fire; (6) Effects of Pre-stress in steel tube on the composite columns; and (7) Effects of concrete compaction. The potential problems and challenges in using concrete-filled steel tubes in China are also pointed out in the paper. Future research work is identified.
