Abstract

A framework for numerical simulation of time-dependent performance change of RC structures subjected to chloride attack is presented in this paper. The system is composed of simplified computational models for transport of moisture and chloride ions in concrete pore structure and crack, corrosion of steel bars in concrete and mechanical behavior of RC member with corroded reinforcing bars. Service-life of RC structures under various conditions can be calculated. The sensitivity of material properties, structural dimension, and environmental condition on the service-life of the structure is discussed based on the computational results. The effectiveness of upgrading of existing structures using continuous fiber sheet is also discussed.
