Abstract

This chapter presents the practical experience with biolubricants built up during LLINCWA. More specifically, it discusses examples of “biolubrication” as it applies to equipment encountered at water management facilities like water treatment plants and pumping plants, hydroelectric power plants as well as the lubrication of shipboard machinery. These are typically systems susceptible to the possible release of oil into waterways due to operational characteristics (loss lubrication) or through water wash off, incidental leakage due to damaged seals, accidental discharges from failed equipment or operational errors.
