Abstract

The paper is based on work being developed under the European Project “K-Flow: knowledge flows in the extended manufacturing enterprise”. The paper is intended as an initial description of the work being carried out in the strategy and performance management work package of the project. Particularly, this paper presents an architecture of the extended enterprise (EE) which is based on a process view of the enterprise, focusing specially on the operate processes across the EE. It is claimed that the EE is built from the association of individual business units, rather than from the association of complete single enterprises. The importance of knowledge in the EE is presented, as well as an initial attempt to identify knowledge flows across the EE based in the proposed architecture.
