Web services as a part of an adaptive information system framework for concurrent engineering
Abstract
Adaptability is one of the most important requirements for the creation of information system architectures. Collaborative distributed product development, introduced to shorten the time-to-market, is a knowledge intensive business process with a high velocity of change. Common information systems mostly are not able to fulfill the requirement of adaptability for business or organizational changes. In this paper a requirement model is presented, that allows the identification of building blocks and proceeding models for adaptive information system architectures. Using the example of web services it is emphasized how this new kind of software improves the adaptability of concurrent product development processes.
