Knowledge-based land use dynamic monitoring supported by the ‘3S’-integration technique
Abstract
The New National Land and Resources Investigation Project in China was launched in 1999, and anticipated to last 12 years. Land use dynamic monitoring is an important part of this grand, cross-century project. In this paper, the general structure and technical approach of knowledgebased land use dynamic monitoring supported by the ‘3S’-integration technique is presented. The emphasis is on the implementation of this method, which is involved in satellite imagery processing, land cover classifications based on the spectral repository and land use classifications based on knowledge, field investigations (DGPS surveys), and the establishment of a land use database and land use dynamic monitoring system. To test the approach, we selected a site for the case study in Wenling city in Zhejiang province, China. The experiments show that this approach greatly improves the accuracy of land use classifications and work efficiency, compared with the traditional technical approach of land use dynamic monitoring.
