Discussion of the paper: Theoretical analyses of rock socketed piles, by I.B. Donald, S.W. Sloan & H.K. Chiu

Donald, Chiu and Sloan have extended the elastic solutions for socketed piles given by Pells and Turner (1979), and in the process carried out checks on the latter solutions. These checks show some differences from the previous solutions and the authors conclude that, in particular, Pells and Turner’s settlement influence factors for a shear socket and for a single socketed pile contain significant errors.
