Discussion of the paper: The design of socketed piles in weak rock, by A.F. Williams, I.W. Johnston & I.B. Donald
Abstract
Messrs. Donald, Sloan, Chiu, Williams and Johnston, in their papers at this Conference on Rock Socketed Piles, have referenced the use of a retrievable test rig in their research on the subject. I would like to expand on how the test rig was originally conceived in 1976 for use in the contract situation as an aid to confirmation of rock socket design parameters.
