Abstract

The growing concern with safety has in recent years focussed the engineer’s attention on the dynamic effects involved in earthquakes, explosive shock or wave action on such important structures as dams, nuclear power stations or offshore platforms. In all such structures the soil occupies a predominant part, either as a foundation or as the main construction material. Neans are therefore necessary for a prediction of the deformation and collapse of such soil structure components under dynamic loads. It is to this problem that the present paper is devoted.
