Abstract

The importance of site response analysis in evaluating the seismic behavior of a particular site is obvious in light of the amplification which can be observed as a result of the characteristics of the soil deposit. The problem is complex, but fortunately can often be simplified by considering the behavior of vertically propo-gating shear waves under the assumption that the soil layers are horizontal. Nevertheless, the essential nonlinear behavior of the soil at levels of deformations typical of seismic events must be included in any worthwhile analysis.
