Abstract

The intensity and dynamic characteristics of ground motions generated by earthquake loading are affected significantly by the pore-water pressures that develop during shaking. Until fairly recently, however, all analyses of the response of soils to earthquake loading have been carried out without including the influence of porewater because no model was available for predicting its development. The first model for predicting pore-water pressures generated by cyclic by Martin, Finn and This model has been priate constitutive tions of motions to mie response analysis in which soil properties are modified continuously for the effects of increasing pore-water pressures.
