Abstract

Plant production is the basis of all life on earth since only plants are able to transform solar energy into useful chemical energy. This process, called photosynthesis is discussed for single leaves as well for crop surfaces. Part of the carbon fixed by photosynthesis is lost by respiratory processes, roughly divided into maintenance and growth respiration.
