Abstract

A two dimensional cross section of the twin, three lane Fjellinjen road tunnels under Oslo has been modelled, using the UDEC-BB discontinuum code. The tunnel project is subjected to strict water inflow criteria in order to minimise building damage from differential settlements in the overlying clay. A complete investigation sequence will contain the following steps: geological mapping, interpretation of borehole logs, water pumping tests, stress measurements, standard rock mechanic laboratory tests, joint index tests, generation of joint performance curves and full scale joint data and finally the numerical simulation of the jointed rock mass reaction on excavation
