Abstract

Polymer concretes were earlier used predominantly in making products and in the construction of structures without reinforcement: the main requirement then was durability in various aggressive media. The cross-sections of structures were determined by a set of factors, among which strength factors often did not play a decisive role. Under these conditions, satisfactory results were obtained by designing structures for the permissible stresses on the basis of the actual properties of the type of polymer concrete used and fairly high safety factors.
