Aspects on safety of dams
Abstract
Statistical investigations show an evident decrease of dam failures related to the number of dams built in recent decades compared with former ones. Furthermore the report deals with the main causes for damages, which percentage may be approximately constant for many decades. These two tendencies underline the importance of an appropriate monitoring system, developed within the last decades, to detect such problems in time.
