Theoretical and practical aspects of the lining of shafts sunk in the Carpathian nappe in Czechoslovakia
Abstract
During the sinking of shafts through the Carpathian CBeskydian) nappe in the southern part of the Ostrava-Karvina Coal Basin, rocks of a reduced strength and strong tectonic disturbance were encountered. This was the case of the Frenštát mine where the shafts were sunk in the overthrust Beskydy mountains and stability problems occurred. At the end of 1985, a section of 150 m in one of the shafts being sunk collapsed. A number of theoretical and practical problems had to be solved to find the most adequate method of sinking and lining of these shafts. In the following, some of them will be discussed.
