Abstract

Factors controlling the slope slides occured in and around the Kirka Borax open pit mine were investigated. Presence of a large number of old circular landslides wrre observed in the area for the first time during this investigation and it is also noted that the slope slides in the mine have come about by disturbance of the previously slided rock mass during the open pit operations. Slope height versus slope angle relations were established for the open pit mine from the back analysis of the slided slopes to be used for design purposes and recommendations are made for carrying out the mine operation in a safe environment.
