Abstract

The recently released Seismotectonic Map of Greece,on 1:500.000 scale, by IGME is a many years effort of multidisciplinary co-operation. The map gives emphasis to the close quantitative relationship between the prevailing engineering geological conditions, the tectonics and the hazard due to strong earthquakes. For the purpose, the density of rocks and soils in juxtaposition with the p-wave velocities were the primary parameters employed to distinguish the geological background into six groups, behaving differently during seismic load.
