Abstract

This paper discusses the engineering geology of the Ipoh area. The topics of discussions include subsurface geology, rockfalls and land subsidence. It is shown that the engineering geologic problems encountered are related to the geologic setting of the area, namely a karstic terrain with abundant precipitous limestone hills, the highly pinnacled limestone bedrock, and the extensive occurrence of soft alluvial soils and mine tailings or slimes.
