Frictional heat in landslide process
Abstract
Some theoretical aspects on frictional heating and melting along sliding surface Brediscussed in the paper. It is emphasized that high-speed landslide may produce a very high increase in temperature, even melt the rocks nearby the sliding surface. This phenomenon is proved by case histories. the distributional characteristics of temperature produced by friction in three different periods of landslide movement is analysed, which points out the difficulty trying to predict the sliding-time by measuring of the variations of temperature in spite of the final temperature may reach hundreds degrees.
